Voice agent vs. voice assistant

5 min read · Updated 12 October 2026

They both listen, but they do different jobs. A voice assistant answers questions and runs its built-in skills. A voice agent operates software for you, completing tasks in the apps you already use.

Smart-speaker assistants (Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant)

These are brilliant at quick questions, timers, music and smart-home devices. They work through integrations: if a developer built a skill for something, the assistant can do it. They don’t see or operate the apps on your PC.

Chat assistants on the desktop (like Copilot)

Desktop AI assistants are excellent for writing, summarising and answering questions, and some are starting to take actions in selected apps and settings. Their focus is conversation first, with actions added on.

Voice agents (Dexibi)

Dexibi is designed for the PC itself. It reads the app in front of you, then clicks, types and navigates to finish the job, checking each step. It works in apps that have no integration at all, because it uses them the way you do.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dexibi like Alexa?

Both respond to your voice, but Alexa is a voice assistant designed for questions, smart-home control and built-in skills. Dexibi is a voice agent for Windows that operates your actual PC apps: clicking, typing and navigating to complete tasks.

Can Alexa or Siri control my Windows PC?

Not in general. Smart-speaker assistants control their own skills and connected devices. To operate arbitrary Windows apps by voice you need Windows Voice Access or a voice AI agent like Dexibi.
