Short answer: yes. A new kind of software, the AI agent, can look at your screen and operate your apps the way you do: clicking buttons, typing into fields, opening programs and moving between windows. With voice on top, you can run your PC just by talking.
How an AI actually controls a computer
An AI agent that operates a computer needs three abilities: it has to see what’s on screen, decide what to do next, and act on the interface.
- Seeing. On Windows, the cleanest way is UI Automation, the accessibility interface that screen readers use. It exposes every button, link, menu and text field with its name and position. When an app draws its own interface (games, some video players, canvases), the agent can look at a screenshot instead.
- Deciding. A large language model receives your request plus a description of the screen and chooses the next step: “click the Episodes button”, “type ‘train times’ in the search box”.
- Acting. The agent performs real input: invoking a button, setting a field’s text, sending keystrokes or a mouse click. Good agents then look again to check that the step worked before moving on.
That loop of observe, decide, act and verify repeats until the task is done. It’s how Dexibi can handle a request like “play the next episode” even when the player has no next button: it reads that you’re on Season 3 Episode 2, opens the episode list and starts Episode 3.
What AI can do on your computer today
- Open apps and websites, switch windows and arrange your work.
- Click, type, scroll and fill in forms in almost any Windows app.
- Control media: pause, skip intros, change episodes, adjust volume.
- Organise files in folders you allow, such as moving invoices from Downloads to Finance.
- Draft replies and messages in your email or chat apps.
- Explain what’s on screen: an error message, a long page, a confusing setting.
What it can’t (or shouldn’t) do
- Secure screens are off limits. Windows deliberately blocks other programs from the sign-in screen, User Account Control prompts and apps running as administrator.
- It isn’t perfect. Unusual interfaces can confuse an agent. A trustworthy one says when it couldn’t confirm a result instead of pretending.
- It shouldn’t handle secrets. Passwords, one-time codes and card numbers are for you to type.
Is it safe to let AI control your PC?
It depends entirely on how the agent is built. Look for these safeguards:
- Confirmation before consequences. Sending, deleting, buying and installing should always wait for your explicit yes.
- Resistance to prompt injection. Text on a web page or in an email is data. The agent must never follow instructions it reads there.
- An instant stop. A spoken “stop” or a keyboard shortcut should cancel everything.
- Least privilege. Separate switches for input control, screen reading, clipboard and file access, with files limited to folders you choose.
- No hidden recording. Audio and screenshots should be processed and discarded, not stored.
Dexibi is built around all of these. See how Dexibi works for the details.
Controlling your computer with your voice
Pair an AI agent with speech recognition and you get a voice AI agent: say “Hey Dexibi, move my invoices into the Finance folder” and it happens, hands-free. Features like on-device speaker verification make sure it only responds to your voice, not the TV.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI control my computer?
Yes. AI agents such as Dexibi read what is on the screen (through the operating system’s accessibility interface or screenshots), decide what to do with a language model, and perform real mouse and keyboard actions, checking the result after each step.
Is it safe to let AI control my computer?
It can be, if the agent asks before consequential actions, never handles passwords or payment details, ignores instructions written on web pages, and lets you stop it instantly. Choose tools that work this way.
Can I control my computer with my voice using AI?
Yes. A voice AI agent combines speech recognition with computer control, so you can say “open Chrome and search for train times” and it carries out the steps hands-free.
